Localized in Prazeres, Calheta, this traditional country house has ample accommodations. It stays 40 quilometres away from Funchal and 60 quilometres away from the airport. This cottage is spotted in a green field, oriented to the south and facing the Atlantic Ocean, in a totally reconstructed and amplified house, in the south coast of Madeira Island. Also, we can enjoy more hours of sunlight in Calheta since it is the sunniest place in Madeira. This village stays a few minutes away from the Fig Tree House, which offers you a quiet, marvelous and isolated place, with a swimming pool that gives you a total panoramic view over the ocean.
This project was built in a highly rural area in order to be part of a strategy to provide these spaces of regional interest with services aimed at improving public investment trough the private investment.
Origin
In this project that we now present, we opted to use an architectural language which seeks to create a strong connection between the local traditional architecture and the vernacular buildings.
This house was completely destroyed before being the target of a total reconstruction in its integrity by the traditional way. In spite of being amplified, its original architecture in stone basalt of the island was maintained. Moreover, this house stands out for its modern light lines which unites it by its history and past with the comfort and dynamism from nowadays.
All of its bedrooms offer a breath-taking view over the sea and the garden. These bedrooms also have floor-to-ceiling windows which open to their balconies. The interior design is inspired by Madeira’s traditions with a vernacular perspective.
